A Wuse Zone 2 Chief Magistrates’ Court in Abuja on Wednesday sentenced a 38-year-old, Chidozie Odume, to four months in prison for alleged visa scam.
The Senior Magistrate, Teribo Jim, sentenced Odume, a travel agent, after he pleaded guilty to the charges.
Jim, however, gave the convict, a resident of CBN Quarters, Karu, Abuja, an option to pay N10,000 fine.
He also ordered the convict to pay a compensation of N370,000 to the complainants.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Christopher Johnson, had told the court that on July 12, Lovett Abonye and Amaka Onyia of Wuse 2, Abuja, reported the matter at the Maitama Police Station.
He said that the complainants alleged that sometime in April, they entrusted the convict with N370,000 to process visa to Indonesia on their behalf.
Johnson said that the convict did not get the visa to the complainants, rather, converted the said money to his personal use.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened sections 312 and 322 of the Penal Code.
Odume, having admitted guilt, pleaded for leniency, saying that the court should give him time to get the money as his wife was due to give birth soon.
