A civil Society organisation, Citizens Advocacy for Social and Economic Rights (CASER) has asked the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, (RCCG) Pastor Enoch Adeboye to rescind his decision relinquishing his position to Pastor Joseph Obayemi.

Adeboye had announced on Saturday at a meeting with the church ministers that he was compelled by the Controversial Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria(FRCN) Code of corporate Governance 2015 to introduce a new leadership structure which made Obayemi the General Overseer for the Nigerian churches.

The implementation of the Code was suspended by the Federal government on Monday while the Council was dissolved.

In a statement on Tuesday, the Executive Director of the rights group, Mr Frank Tietie, said the group would seek a court order to compel Adeboye to rescind his decision if he refuses .

The Abuja-based group said it was acting, not only in the interest of members of the RCCG who respect Adeboye, but also in the interest the Church generally.

“CASER urges the highly revered Pastor Adeboye to change his mind and rescind his resignation as the General Overseer of RCCG.

“Where, therefore, the holy man of God refuses to review his decision to resign, CASER shall seek an order of court to compel him to remain as the general overseer,’’the group said.
