Police arraign artist for raping teenager

A 23-year-old man, Daniel Idahosa, appeared in an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court on Friday for allegedly raping and impregnating a teenager.
Idahosa, an artist and resident of No. 2, Oshintedo Street, Ogba, a suburb of Lagos, is facing a one-count charge of rape.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Benedict Aigbokhan, told the court that the offence was committed at the accused residence on Feb. 14.
Aigbokhan said that the victim, a 16-year-old girl, went to the accused residence on that day.
“The accused raped her but she did not tell anyone when she got home,’’ he said.
Aigbokhan said that the victim’s mother got to know when her daughter became sick.
He said that when the victim was examined by a medical doctor, she tested positive to pregnancy.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened Section 259 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The accused pleaded not guilty.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Tajudeen Elias, granted bail to the accused in the sum of one million naira with two sureties in like sum.
He adjourned the case till June 22 for mention.
