Member of masquerade’s group stabs man to death



An Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan, on Monday remanded a 21-year-old member of a masquerade group, Ibrahim Agboluaje, in prison for allegedly stabbing a man to death.

Agboluaje of Ajegede area of Ibadan was arraigned on a two- count charge of conspiracy and murder.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Sunday Ojeleye, told the court that Agboluaje and others now at large committed the offences on July 18, at 2.20 p.m. at Ode-Aje Oloolu, Ajegede area of Ibadan.

Ojeleye said that Agboluaje allegedly caused the death of one Tunde Rasheed, 25, by stabbing the deceased with a broken bottle on his neck.

He said that the stabbing and death of the deceased followed a fight that ensued among the followers of the popular Ibadan masquerade.

“Agboluaje used a broken bottle to stab Rasheed on the neck, which led to his demise,” Ojeleye said.

The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 316 and 324 and was punishable under section 319 of the Criminal Code Cap 38, Vol.II Laws of Oyo State 2000.

The plea of the accused was not taken.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Abdulateef Adebisi ordered the remand of the accused in Agodi Prison pending the advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP).

Adebisi adjourned the case till Sept.1 for mention.
