Man beats, threatens to shoot ex-wife over child’s custody

An Ogudu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Friday granted a bail of N30, 000 to a man, who allegedly beat his ex-wife and threatened to shoot her over his child’s custody.

The court also gave the accused two reliable sureties in like sum, one of who must be a blood relation with an evidence of gainful employment.

Omomu, a street hawker residing at Agric in Ikorodu area of Lagos, is facing assault and threatening violence charges to which he has pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Ihiehie Lucky, told the court that the case was reported at Ketu Police Station on Sept. 6 by the complainant, a hairdresser.

Ihiehie said the accused came to the complainant’s house while she was making a customer’s hair and wanted to collect her three-year-old daughter by force.

“The complainant resisted,accusing him of taking away their two children of ages six and seven from her and took them to his mother’s place in Benin.

“He started beating her and spoiling everything in her house to the extent of threatening her with a knife and a pair of scissors if she refused.

“Neighbours came to her rescue as he broke her door and windows before they could even stop him, ” he said.

“Just before he was able to run away he had threatened to kill the complainant with a gun.”

The offences contravened Sections 56 and 170 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The Magistrate, Mrs. O.Sule-Amzat, adjourned the case to Oct. 27.
