Lagos socialite arraigned for drug trafficking

Lagos socialite, Funmilola Arike Ogbuaya, was arraigned on Thursday before Justice Hadiza Rabiu Shagari of the Federal High Court, Ikoyi, Lagos by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency(NDLEA).

Her arraignment was through an amended charge No. FHC/L/124c/2017, Federal Republic of Nigeria versus Omolara Odeyemi a.k.a. Ariyo Monsurat Olabisi and Fumilola Arike Ogbuaya a.k.a. Arike Fumilola Ogundipe.

Popularly known as Arike Funmilola Ogundipe, the defendant who is a suspected drug baron, pleaded not guilty to all three count charge of conspiracy, aiding and procuring of substances found to be cocaine.

Her bail application was granted because the first defendant had been granted bail, but she was remanded in prison custody pending the perfection of her bail conditions.The case was adjourned by Justice Shagari to June 28 and 29 2017 for trial.

Ogbuya who hails from Ilesa, Osun State, is a distributor of alcoholic drinks.

She had been implicated in a case of unlawful exportation of 1.595kg of cocaine to Saudi Arabia in February 2017 at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport.

The NDLEA operatives had stormed her Lagos residence to arrest her, but was evasive.She also refused to report to the office of the agency on invitation for several months.She presented herself to the Agency when she was declared wanted.

An interim forfeiture order had been granted to the NDLEA over her assets worth billions of Naira.
