One Vera Patrick and Agba Daniel were on Wednesday arraigned before a Gudu Upper Area Court, Abuja, for allegedly threatening to kidnap a pastor.
The defendants who reside at Mararaba, Nasarawa State are standing trial on a two-count-charge of criminal conspiracy and intimidation.
Prosecutor John Ijagbemi told the court that one Prophet Emmanuel Omale, of General Overseer of the Divine Hands of God Church, Dagba, Abuja, reported the matter at the FCT Police Command on April 29.
Ijagbemi said that the defendants and others still at large conspired to kidnap the plaintiff, his wife and only son.
He said the accused sent life threatening text messages to the plaintiff’s cell phone.
The prosecutor said that the defendants also demanded the sum of N5 million from the complaint for them not to carry out their threats.
He said the offences contravened Sections 97 and 397 of the Penal Code.
The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty.
The Defence Counsel, Igocha Thereasa, made a bail application in favour of the defendants, assuring the court that reliable sureties would be provided if bail is granted.
The Judge, Alhaji Umar Kagarko, granted bail to the defendants in the sum of N150,000 each, and one surety each in like sum.
He adjourned the case till Aug. 9 for hearing
