Mr Ilesanmi Ojo, an ex- magistrate and 19 others, were on Tuesday arraigned in an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court for riot.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Adesoji Adegboye, discharged Ojo on self-recognition.
Adegboye also granted bail to all the accused persons in the sum of N100, 000 each with two each sureties in like sum, and adjourned the matter till Sept. 30, for further hearing.
The Prosecutor, Sgt. Caleb Leranmo, told the court that the accused persons committed the offence on Sept. 3 at Awo-Ekiti in Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government Area of Ekiti.
Leranmo said that the accused persons unlawfully took part in a riot and in a manner likely to cause breech of the peace in Awo community.
He added that the accused also assaulted, DSP Dauda Dankwonbo, during his lawful duty.
The prosecutor said that the offence contravened sections 356, 249 of the Criminal Code, Cap C 16, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012 and the accused persons pleaded not guilty.
Their Counsel, Mr Rotimi Adabenbe, prayed the court to grant bail to the accused persons in liberal terms, promising that they would not jump bail.
He said that most of the accused persons were important people in the society, which includes, chiefs of the community.
